Good article on assessments going up as values fall
The article linked above from the Detroit Free Press is a good introduction to the nutty real estate tax situation we face now in Michigan with values falling, but some assessments rising.

my assessment SEV went up 58.5 percent. Yep my house was lower so he decided to reassess it at a 2 story, then has 1.75 in the figures, barely qualifes as to floor space at 7 feet as 1.5, used 70% good on a house built in 1920. Yes I'm going to BOR and Tax Tribunal if need be because it just isn't right to scew figures that badly.
